A sudden blackout on the Moby Drea ferry , traveling from Olbia to Genoa in the night between Saturday and Sunday, due to fuel pollution, caused the 558 passengers on board to experience moments of apprehension.
The ship stopped off Aleria , facing the west coast of Corsica , and then proceeded slowly towards Genoa, where it arrived yesterday at 12.
"Due to the pollution of the fuel with water - explained by the shipping company to Ansa - for safety reasons the main generator was disconnected and the emergency generator started working".
The blackout, in the middle of the night, frightened the passengers , some of whom poured into the dark corridors of the ship with the LEDs of the mobile phones on to illuminate the path in search of a way out. An uneasiness that lasted three and a half hours .
"I was dozing - says a passenger - at a certain point I realized that everything was off and that the ship was stopped. For a moment I thought: we have arrived. I looked at the clock: it was just after one o'clock. morning. Like my cabin neighbors and all the others, I immediately sensed that something had happened. You can imagine what comes to your mind at that moment, closed in the dark in the middle of the sea ".
Once it arrived in the port of Genoa and the cause of what happened was ascertained - the company explains again - all the checks were made and the Moby Drea left for Olbia at around 8 pm.
MOBY'S NOTE - Moby has issued a note on the affair, which reads: "The Moby Drea ship has been slowed down due to a batch of diesel fuel polluted by water which has therefore automatically triggered all the safety procedures required for the engines, including the emergency generators that ensured the ship's lighting and therefore allowed navigation in total tranquility ".
"The crew, whom the Company thanks for the professionalism and efficiency with which they solved the problem - continues the note - immediately activated to allow the ship to arrive at the port of destination with the least possible delay . The Company , in compliance with all procedures and regulations, he offered the maximum assistance to passengers. The ship then left Genoa for Olbia without any further problems ".
