«Brutal violence in Bancali» . This is how Michele Cireddu, general secretary of the Uil Pa Penitentiary Police of Sardinia, denounces the umpteenth assault that occurred against an agent in the Sassari prison.

It happened yesterday evening during a routine round of control in the section, when the policeman looked through the peephole of the gate of a detention room to carry out routine checks. "At that precise moment - continues Cireddu - the prisoner confined inside, with an incredibly cowardly and premeditated dynamic, threw a very violent punch to the face of the officer , hitting him fully and without the latter having any possibility of defense".

The union says it is concerned by the “lightness” with which these actions are carried out, “as if it were an act without consequences”. “Every punch thrown,” says Michele Cireddu, “at a police officer, every attack perpetrated against those who represent the State within prison walls, is a very strong and intolerable signal against authority and legality. It almost seems that, faced with this spread of violence in the institutions, the heads of the penitentiary administration are unable, or perhaps unwilling, to implement concrete and decisive interventions .”
