Sappe also reports two recent attacks that occurred in the facility against penitentiary police officers . A complicated situation overall also because, it reports, «we practically work in a construction site, between dust and noise, as a result of a series of maintenance interventions that create inconvenience and evident critical issues». Finally, an even more serious episode, the death of a prisoner in his cell.

"Investigations are still underway - continues Cannas - to understand whether the cause of the prisoner's death in Bancali, which occurred through inhalation in his cell of gas from the canister that prisoners legitimately possess to cook and heat food and drinks, was the deliberate desire to take his own life or the consequences of a high gone wrong, but it is certain that the man is dead and this is a sad and serious fact".

The union has been calling for the elimination of spray cans in favor of electric plates for some time. " Let's start from these serious events that occurred in the Bancali prison - says Donato Capece, general secretary of Sappe - to put an end to the long wave of dismantling of prison security policies implemented in the past. Dismembering the internal security of prisons with dynamic surveillance, an open regime and the absence of a Penitentiary Police has in fact inevitably favored critical events, which are constant and continuous. And affection in prison in favor of inmates is certainly not the priority of intervention for the prison system!".
