On hunger strike for 40 days . It happens in Bancali , as reported by the regional guarantor of prisoners Irene Testa , today visiting the Sassari facility.
"A 20-year-old has lost over 15 kg - Testa reports - His physical and mental condition is not negligible. He is - it must be recognized - constantly monitored but he does not intend to eat".
Many critical issues were found by the guarantor, accompanied by Anna Cherchi, municipal representative for people deprived of liberty. "It is my duty to report that in a section with 16 cells there are 55 inmates, most of them crammed four per cell ."
Damp ceilings, peeling walls, cells in precarious hygienic conditions and few cabinets: this is what Testa found. « Are the furnishings reduced to make space and fit within the square footage required by law, so as to fit four beds? The inmates, in order not to throw their clothes on the floor, build small furnishings with cardboard . In some cells there are no radiators, some doors are missing in the bathrooms, so those who live in those spaces are forced to endure smells and humiliation ».
The screams of the inmates continued, including the psychiatric ones who threw water, food and detergent in the corridors while the foreign ones asked to have clothes and shoes.
