The parents of little Mattia Cabras, who died at the age of three months due to peritonitis, will be civil parties in the criminal proceedings. The child's family, represented by the lawyer Daniela Ungaro, is asking for justice for what happened on November 1, 2021.
The prosecutor of the Sassari Prosecutor's Office, Enrica Angioni, has requested the indictment of a specialist from the Pediatric Surgery Department of the Sassari Aou. The alleged medical malpractice would be the basis of the death of the child, son of a couple from Arzachena. The story of little Mattia is summarized in the indictment of prosecutor Angioni. The investigation was initially conducted in Cagliari, where the child died, but the relevant events occurred in Sassari at the time of hospitalization and the magistrates of the capital's public prosecutor's office were given the case for territorial jurisdiction.
According to the prosecutor, the child's condition immediately after admission to hospital required a mandatory and urgent intervention "to explore the abdominal cavity and identify and remove an obstruction". An operation which, according to the Sassari Prosecutor's Office, was not carried out immediately and in this way the peritonitis which caused the child's death was not prevented. The specialist under investigation is defended by lawyers Nicola Satta and Danilo Mattana.
