Assunta Fanni is a treasure chest of memories and anecdotes passed down from generation to generation and lived between two centuries. Yesterday she turned 100, celebrating within the home walls with her dearest affections and institutions, both civil and religious.

Born in Tortolì, at the age of 28 she moved to Arbatax together with her husband, Giovanni Balzano, who arrived in Ogliastra from Ponza together with his merchant uncles when she was 12 years old, and who died in 1966. Together they had nine children, seven of whom are still alive (Silverio, Andrea, Elisa, Franco, Margherita, Lucio and Geppino).

A woman of faith, a housewife, grandmother Assunta is devoted to the Madonna of Stella Maris. Some understandable physical ailments do not affect her lucid mind. She shared a sumptuous lunch with her children, nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The mayor and the president of the city council, Marcello Ladu and Mara Mascia, and the parish priest, Don Franco Serrau, visited the grandmother.
