After years of abandonment, the ancient Forte della Maddalena in Alghero with the Garibaldi Tower will soon be the subject of important restoration and redevelopment works. This was announced by the municipal offices which have already awarded the first batch of works for an amount of 879 thousand euros, works carried out in close collaboration with the Archaeological Superintendency.

The project involves the consolidation of the historic perimeter walls, the redefinition of the floors and the overall safety of one of the most fascinating areas of the historic center of Alghero. But the goal is to finally make the old city wall system usable, with the possibility of walking on it, as already happens in other European cities.

«A symbolic place will be returned to the city, with a strong identity value, which was unusable for too long», underlined the mayor Mario Conoci. «We found a place closed and in a total state of abandonment, thanks to the planned works it will be adequately valorised for tourism purposes and will soon be usable and admired for its beauty». The process of the works was followed by the councilor for Public Works Antonello Peru, by the manager Gianni Balzano and by the sole manager of the procedure Alessandro Azara.
