In Alghero in the summer, especially in July and August, motorists and tourists with a vehicle experience a small nightmare: finding a free parking space . In the evening it is practically impossible and you have to go to the suburbs to find somewhere. It doesn't get much better in the daytime.

An emblematic example is the very central Piazzale della Pace , a large paid parking lot, which is literally stormed daily, especially by tourists, forced to long queues under the sun, or sometimes under the water, to buy the ticket. It is certainly not a good business card for the Riviera del Corallo, which in any case is experiencing a fantastic tourist season. But that could be further improved with even more efficient services.

The long queues and the great inconveniences in front of paid parking lots, certainly undeniable, have sparked the controversy, especially on social networks. There are those who propose the use of automatic barriers on the large parking lot or the hiring of employees to pay the ticket. Others, on the other hand, propose the construction of new underground spaces, including multi-storey ones.

The Councilor for Traffic Emiliano Piras intervenes on this (and other) hypothesis. "An underground multi-storey car park costs 30 thousand euros per car - he says -. And to build structures of this type it takes from 4.5 to 9 million euros. Even project financing would not be able to sustain itself economically. Free parking for all this Administration does not he can afford them because the budget is also made up of extra tax revenues ".
