" Territorial continuity is the tool to ensure the right to mobility of Sardinians , but without adequate planning of departure and arrival times of flights to Rome and Milan this right remains denied even in the face of the award of the tender to Ita Airways". This is the appeal promoted by the mayor of Sassari, Giuseppe Mascia , also on behalf of all the mayors of the metropolitan network of which he is president.
The new timetable of the morning flight to Linate , taking off at 9 am from Fertilia and arriving at 10.05 am at the Milanese airport, is not liked by the mayors of Sassari, Alghero, Porto Torres, Sorso, Sennori, Castelsardo, Valledoria and Stintino, who are expressing the discontent of a much larger territory.
"Alghero airport is the airport of North West Sardinia and serves almost a third of Sardinians, from Bosa to the lower Coghinas valley passing through a large slice of the hinterland", is the reflection from which Giuseppe Mascia starts to underline that "not only the right to mobility of those who travel for health, work, study or for the most disparate reasons, but also the expectations of entire economic and productive sectors risk being mortified if we do not remedy what we want to consider only a temporary solution".
The Metropolitan Network, whose tourist and commercial development depends directly on the quality of connections with the rest of Italy, Europe and the world, actually welcomes the return of the national airline to the "Riviera del Corallo". " We do not side with anyone, only with those who ensure our community the best service , from every point of view - clarifies Mascia - but we were certainly pleased by the words of the top management of Ita the day after the award of the tender".
The mayors of the wider Sassari area are asking for "a first concrete sign of this attention" , as Giuseppe Mascia affirms for all. "Allowing Sardinian citizens to leave at the most usual time represents an effective confirmation of the good intentions declared, but also a response to a need widely perceived by our communities".
