The Sassari Public Prosecutor's Office has ordered the seizure of the body of Natalie Tanda, the 8-year-old girl from Villanova Monteleone, who died on Saturday evening at the Alghero Civil Hospital, two days after undergoing surgery to remove her tonsils.
The medical records were also seized and in the next few hours a coroner will be assigned to perform the autopsy. The examination cannot be carried out by the Institute of Forensic Medicine of the ASL 1 of Sassari, due to incompatibility, given that the civil hospital of Alghero is also part of the same company.
Meanwhile, in Villanova Monteleone, the town in the province of Sassari where the little girl lived with her parents and an older sister, Mayor Quirico Meloni has cancelled the carnival celebrations and declared a day of mourning for the day Natalie's funeral will be held.
The little girl had been hospitalized for several days in the ENT department of the Alghero civil hospital, where she had been operated on Thursday 6 February: she had undergone ENT surgery whose outcome had not shown any critical issues during the operation or in the immediate post-operative period, so much so that her discharge had been scheduled for yesterday morning. But on Saturday evening the little girl showed a sudden complication and for this reason the doctors were preparing her return to the operating room.
However, everything degenerated in a very short time and every attempt by the doctors, both the ENT specialists and the resuscitators of the Civile who rushed to the ward, proved useless: the little girl died in the ENT ward shortly before 9 pm on Saturday.
