Third consecutive day of fighting the flames in Aglientu , where the regional firefighting team is trying to definitively put out the last outbreaks of the vast blaze that broke out on Monday, incinerating more than 20 hectares of pine forest and Mediterranean scrub near the beaches of Massidda and Lu Litarroni, in the environmental and naturalistic paradise of Monti Russu , a Site of Community Interest.
This morning , two helicopters took to the skies to support the ground teams in the cleanup operations : the light helicopter departed from the Limbara base and the Super Puma from Alà dei Sardi. The firefighting operations manager from the Luogosanto Forestry Station is coordinating the operations on site.
"Today, only a few fires are active," Mayor Marco Demuro said. "According to initial estimates , approximately 24 hectares of land, including a section of pine forest and Mediterranean scrub, have gone up in smoke. A section of the beach and the parking lot, which we evacuated on the first day, remain closed ."
Investigators from the Tempio Inspectorate and the Luogosanto Forestry Corps Station have opened a very delicate investigation, given the damage, into an Enel power line and in particular into a pole near which the fire's origin has been identified.
There is also controversy over the dismantling of the network of lookouts in the area, in particular the Forestas post in Aglientu.
