Alarming data for Sardinia in the latest ACI-Istat report on road accidents in Italy.

In Nuoro and Southern Sardinia, in fact, the mortality rate (i.e., the number of deaths per 1,000 accidents) is more than double the national average, at 52.8 and 51.7, respectively, compared to 16.2 . Furthermore, the report includes the province of Oristano among the Italian territories that have recorded the highest percentage increase in fatal accidents since 2019.

At a national level, again based on ACI-Istat data, referring to 2025, 177,207 accidents resulting in personal injuries were recorded in Italy (+2.2% compared to 2024 and +2.9% compared to 2019), which caused 2,868 deaths (3,030 in 2024 -5.3%; 3,173 in 2019, -9.6%) and 237,822 injuries (233,853 in 2024, +1.7%; 241,384 in 2019, -1.5%).

As can be seen, the number of fatal accidents is decreasing, but this decrease is still considered quite "limited." The figures remain dramatic: 485 accidents occur on Italian roads every day, with an average of 7.9 deaths and 652 injuries each day.
