All acquitted for the alleged violence that occurred in the Navy Petty Officers School in La Maddalena. The sentence was handed down by the judge of the Tempio Tribunal, Maria Elena Lai, and concerns an episode that occurred in 2018. A student accused some soldiers of having subjected her to brutal treatment, with wire cutters and a vice, for cutting a steel ring that was squeezing her thumb.

The lieutenant commander, Giovanni Vacca, 45 years old, from Porto Torres, the marshals Catello Di Martino and Emanuele Palagiano and the commander of the School (at the time of the crime) Domenico Usai were cleared of all charges. The same public prosecutor Gianmarco Vargiu had excluded the crimes of abuse of power, personal injury, violence against a subordinate in rank and failure to report.

The methods of the intervention were certainly questionable, the student was accompanied to the workshop of the Navy School, but according to the prosecutor there was no violence or acts of abuse. The requests of the defense attorneys of the soldiers, Eduardo Boursier Niutta, Gianfranco Grussu and Filippo Orecchioni, were accepted.

The story, in 2018, had a wide prominence in the national news with heavy accusations against the Navy. The prosecutor requested an evaluation on the transmission of the documents to the Prosecutor's Office to verify the student's statements, for the purposes of a possible slander charge.
