The Stroke Unit at Brotzu Hospital in Cagliari has been awarded the ESO Angels Diamond Award, the highest European recognition for centers specializing in stroke treatment. The award was presented during the presidential session of the European Stroke Organization Conference (ESOC) in Maastricht.
The Stroke Unit, coordinated by Dr. Jessica Moller and part of the Neurology department directed by Dr. Giovanni Cossu, received three Diamond awards in 2025 from the Angels program promoted by the European Stroke Organisation.
The award is given to Stroke Units that ensure high standards in stroke management: rapid response, appropriate care, compliance with international guidelines, and the ability to ensure effective and timely care pathways.
Behind this achievement lies a never-ending effort: an organization built around the patient, where time can truly make the difference between recovery and permanent disability.
The award recognizes the integrated work of doctors, nurses, technicians, and healthcare professionals involved in the entire treatment process, from emergency to rehabilitation. The ongoing collaboration between Neurology, Radiology, Neuroradiology, Emergency Department, Intensive Care, Physical Medicine, and the local emergency system 118 is also essential.
The international award ceremony in Maastricht follows the official recognition received during the Italian Stroke Association congress, held in Rome last April, and places Brotzu among the European reference centers for stroke treatment.
"This award is a source of pride for our entire company," commented General Manager Maurizio Marcias. "Behind an international recognition like this lies expertise, organization, dedication, and above all, great teamwork. Stroke management requires speed, experience, and a seamlessly functioning network. The three Diamond Awards demonstrate that Arnas is a highly qualified facility, capable of offering patients care at the highest international standards. This achievement is a testament to all the professionals involved in providing care every day and confirms the value of our healthcare staff."
