Director Andrea Segre's ''Berlinguer. The Great Ambition'' will open the Rome Film Fest on October 16 , one of the most anticipated events on the Italian cultural scene.
The film about the beloved leader of the Communist Party is the first fiction film focused on his public and private life. From 1973, when he escaped an attack by the Bulgarian secret services in Sofia, to the assassination in 1978 of the president of the Christian Democrats Aldo Moro. Starring Elio Germano, the film is the fresco of a shattered dream, that of uniting Catholics and Socialists to lead the country . After the opening of the Roman festival, the film will be screened as a national preview in Sassari, the hometown of the secretary of the PCI.
But in this 19th edition Sardinia also participates in Mia, the international audiovisual market: the director Salvatore Mereu with ''Alberi errant e naufraghi'', Peter Marcias with ''Lo stato delle anime'' , in the sessions dedicated to the presentations of projects in production.
Not only that, because the animated film ''Balentes'', by Giovanni Columbu , will participate out of competition in the independent section ''Alice nella città'', dedicated to young talents.
Still out of competition , ''Anime flottanti'' by Maria Gimenez Cavallo , a journey through the mystical land of the island, inspired by Ovid's Metamorphoses.
Finally, in the parallel section, the series ''NUR never too late'' , a futuristic work by Lorenzo Vignolo and Salvatore De Chirico, set in Sardinia in 2046, struggling with a serious environmental crisis .
