He presented his resignation to the prime minister, but Giorgia Meloni rejected it, also because, Gennaro Sangiuliano assures, "I am not open to blackmail". The minister, emotional, goes on TV, on Tg1, apologizes to the people dear to him and involved in the affair, and confirms once again his version of the facts: no public money was spent to pay for the trips with Maria Rosaria Boccia.
"We had a relationship, which is also why I revoked the assignment," he says about the failed nomination of the entrepreneur and influencer to the role of advisor for Major Events. For her, he adds, "I have never spent public money, I paid for everything myself." And therefore, "I cannot be blackmailed," he repeats, referring to having shown the news director, Gian Marco Chiocci, his bank details and the train tickets to Milan and the plane to Taormina, bought together with Boccia. "They were paid by me," he specifies, "with the credit card that refers to my personal account." "It weighs on me to talk about this. It's a personal, emotional relationship," he confesses.
"The first person I have to apologize to, because she is an exceptional person, is my wife," he says again, with tears in his eyes . "I apologize to Meloni for the embarrassment I have caused her and the government. I apologize to my collaborators who were involved in the affair."
A necessary and expected clarification, also from Maria Rosaria Boccia who shortly before the broadcast announced that she was waiting for Tg1 with a box of popcorn: «Everything comes to those who wait». In one of her many posts on social media she reveals that she spoke to the minister during the hours in which Sangiuliano was talking to the prime minister («I told you yesterday afternoon on the phone and I'll tell you again this morning», writes the woman).
Boccia then returns to the attack by publishing a series of new evidence, audio and email headers with Mic executives who prove her "appointment as Advisor to the Minister for Major Events" , who sent her the program for the ceremony to hand over the keys to the city of Pompeii and the boarding passes for her, the minister and a third person.
And while the scandal of the filming of the interiors of Montecitorio, shot by the woman using "smart" glasses on the market that contain a small camera, also explodes, the opposition is taking advantage of the situation to push for a request to report to Parliament so that, says the PD, Sangiuliano explains "in the institutional offices the details of an affair that is embarrassing the government also at an international level". Or - with the exception of the M5s leader Conte - he resigns.
Meanwhile, the affair risks reaching the prosecutor's office: the Green Angelo Bonelli has announced that he will file a complaint.
