This morning, surprisingly, the club released a curt statement : "AS Roma announces that it has relieved Daniele De Rossi of his duties as coach of the First Team". "The Club's decision - the note continues - is taken in the interest of the team, to be able to promptly resume the desired path, at a time when the season is still at its beginning". Then thanks "to Daniele, who will always be at home in the Giallorossi Club, for the work carried out in these months with passion and dedication".
Among the favourites for the succession is Maurizio Sarri.
De Rossi was hired by the Giallorossi club on January 16, after the dismissal of Josè Mourinho, with a six-month contract, until June 2024. Dan and Ryan Friedkin's club then decided to confirm the coach well before the expiry of the agreement, on April 18 and on the eve of the Europa League quarter-finals against Milan.
The decision to focus on the former Giallorossi flag bearer and captain was presented at the time as a "long-term project".
