Italy is there. On the red clay of Roland Garros Fabio Fognini and Jannik Sinner excite the fans as they pass the round. The feat is accomplished by the Ligurian tennis player: at the age of thirty-six the histrionic blue champion - capable of performances bordering on perfection but also of throwing away talent and victories in five minutes of madness - took the satisfaction of eliminating Felix Auger-Aliassime, number 10 in the ATP ranking and in the Parisian seeding. Of course, the Canadian is back from a negative period but the score of 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 lets us understand how the Ligurian tennis player is in a particular state of grace.

In Rome, Fognini beat two big names like Andy Murray and Miomir Kecmanovic. Now on his way he finds the affordable Australian Jason Kubler, number 69 in the ATP ranking. Sinner was obliged to win against the lesser rated Alexandre Muller, but the 6-1, 6-4, 6-1 bodes well for the continuation of the tournament : the German Daniel Altmaier, number 79 Atp, is next opponent . Instead, Marco Cecchinato, Flavio Cobolli and Martina Trevisan stop. The former lost badly 3-0 to the young Frenchman Luca Van Ascche: 6-1, 6-1, 6-3. Cobolli, on the other hand, could do little against the super-favourite of the tournament, Carlos Alcaraz: the Spaniard beat the 21-year-old from Florence in three sets 6-0, 6-2, 7-5. It didn't go better at Trevisan.

The blue, number 24 in the WTA ranking, surrendered in one hour and 12 minutes for 6-2, 6-2 to Elina Svitolina. The Ukraine, former number 3 in the world, returned to the field on 18 March after her first maternity leave. In a few weeks she has already climbed hundreds of positions and is now 192nd thanks to the victory of the WTA tournament in Strasbourg two days ago: first title as a new mother, therefore, after giving birth to a child last October. And it promises to amaze at Roland Garros. Novak Djokovic is also off to a good start in the men's field: the Serbian beat the American Aleksandar Kovacevic in three sets (6-3 6-2 7-6).

Now he will face the 31-year-old Hungarian Marton Fucsovics, number 83 of the ATP.
