The Regional Tourism Councilor, Gianni Chessa, signed the memorandum of understanding for the enhancement and promotion of cultural-religious tourism in Sardinia with Monsignor Antonello Mura, president of the Sardinian Bishops' Conference, in the presence of the mayors of the Municipalities that are part of the Foundation "Pilgrimage destinations in Sardinia", established in October last year.
"The theme of 'paths', 'places of pilgrimage' and 'spiritual itineraries', which we have strongly supported with the planning of recent years and which is gathering strong support also in the national scenario, represents an indispensable strategic segment for Sardinia to relaunch and consolidate with determination the enhancement of the island's heritage and the offer of quality tourism, which involves the territories of 256 Sardinian municipalities ", declared the representative of the Giunta Solinas.
"A project born with the aim of including the 'itineraries of the spirit' present in Sardinia within national and international religious networks and paths, generating a structured tourist offer through aggregation and territorial coordination actions that can attract important flows especially in low season periods and to promote the inland areas of the island - added Chessa -. Therefore, to further develop and consolidate this project, the Region and the Sardinian Bishops' Conference signed, for the first time, a Protocol of Understanding , which, according to their respective roles, indicates skills and possibilities for the enhancement and promotion of this tourism segment in Sardinia ".
"Thanks to the involvement of the dioceses, to their ecclesial and territorial specificities and to the ownership of places of worship, it will be possible to create an integrated network that will make it possible to present the image of Sardinia, in terms of cultural-religious tourism, in a coordinated and unified way . Targeted training courses are also provided, to allow individual dioceses to acquire the necessary and appropriate human and professional skills, and moments of territorial animation, so as to guarantee the overall project a qualified and authentic offer on aspects relating to religiosity and spirituality of the ecclesiastical heritage. The involvement of the Sardinian Bishops' Conference represents an added value for this project, which will allow important results to be achieved ", concluded Chessa.
