The unification of the Democratic Party and the Progressives is a done deal. This morning, Massimo Zedda's party informed Regional Council President Piero Comandini that it was joining the Democratic Party group, which will grow from 11 to 13 members and be renamed "PD-Progressisti."

Immediately afterward, group leader Roberto Deriu announced the merger in a meeting attended by all the directors, including the new directors Francesco Agus and Ivan Pintus.

This is the beginning of a journey, Deriu declared, «now within the centre-left alliance there is a closer collaboration between two very deep-rooted groups and parties and we believe that this will help us in future political competitions and simplify dialogue within the regional majority».

The same transition is expected to occur in Rome with the transfer of MP Francesca Ghirra from the AVS group to the PD group. The process was initiated in conjunction with the Progressives' congress last December.

"A choice made towards the Democratic Party federation, the decision has matured in recent months. In this way, the Progressives return to a full council group after a move to the Mixed Group, and this also strengthens the center-left majority in terms of internal viability in the Chamber."
