Considering the chatter of recent months, it can hardly surprise, even as regards the Italian market, a result as positive as the one that the latest effort by master Christopher Nolan is achieving.
The historical biopic starring Cillian Murphy, focused on the true story of physicist Robert Oppenheimer and on the research that will lead to the development of the first atomic bomb, has already outwitted dizzying numbers. According to data from Cinetel, current takings forecast around 8.9 million euros, collected in 521 cinemas with 854,949 admissions; compared to global receipts, the film reaches the remarkable sum of 800 million dollars.
The merit of such a sensational implication also lies in the hype that a Nolan title always manages to arouse in the public - given the large number of successes accumulated over the years with names such as "Interstellar" and above all the trilogy of the "Cavalaiere Dark” - in addition to the unquestionable quality of the cast called upon to direct the games, among which we find Robert Downey Jr., Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh and two exceptional guest stars such as Kenneth Branagh and Gary Oldman.
No less relevant is the weight of the themes covered in the film, which combines the stories and points of view of some of the major personalities in the field of quantum physics who appeared in the twentieth century with an accurate reconstruction of scientific research carried out in the field of nuclear fission, including Niels Bohr, Albert Einstein and Werner Heisemberg.
Another recent release in theaters which - unlike what happened in the United States - is enjoying worthy public approval in the Bel Paese is "The ghost house", the film with a dark and gloomy atmosphere inspired by one of the most characteristic attractions present in the parks Disney themes. With 875,000 euros raised in the weekend alone in 377 theaters and a total of 122,377 admissions, the title directed by Justin Simien boasts a respectable cast including Rosario Dawson, Owen Wilson, Danny De Vito, Jamie Lee Curtis and Jared Leto.
Still on the podium - granite in third position - we find once again "Barbie", which with the last weekend puts a further 645,000 euros in its pocket and makes the film take off at over 30 million euros in total earnings. On the other hand, we see a sharp slowdown on the part of another summer blockbuster: “Shark 2: The Abyss” - an action movie starring Jason Statham – billed another 217,000 euros last weekend and four weeks after its release it reaches the total sum of over 5 million.
We close with the fifth position occupied by the latest title taken from the DC superhero universe: "Blue Beetle" - despite having enjoyed enthusiastic reviews from US critics - it would seem that it has not yet managed to make inroads into our national audience, and two weeks since its release it reaches a total of 910,000 euros with 195,000 euros earned in the last weekend. The charismatic South American boy as a superhero still has a long way ahead of him to grab a success worthy of the name, we'll see if the title will still be able to keep up in the coming weeks, even in view of more recent releases.
