Pd-Lega duel in Northern Italy. While Salvini gathers the Lega people in Pontida, Enrico Letta in Monza intervenes at the event promoted by the Democratic Party.

There are 500 dem mayors who have come from all over Italy to an already full square in Rome. The Pd secretary, arriving in the city of Brianza awaiting the rally that will close the event, immediately went on the attack.

" Pontida today has become a province of Hungary ", he said, "we do not want an Italy that binds itself to Orban's Hungary as Salvini proposes to do, we do not want an Italy that winks at Orban and Putin, we want an Italy that is in the heart of Europe and that is faithful in its alliances ”.

“The idea that Italy becomes today like Orban's Hungary - underlined Letta - is exactly the opposite of what we want to do. Monza is a great European capital and we do not want Italy to follow Pontida's message , that is to go towards Hungary, that is, towards a democracy that is being lost so much that the EU Parliament has sanctioned it ”.

Again: “ We contrast the concreteness of values and good local government with the folklore of Pontida . The many mayors who are here demonstrate our strength and our relationship with the territory. Let's start the last week of the election campaign exactly with the idea of the concreteness and the capacity for good governance of our mayors ”.

Why Monza? “Because it is the symbol of what will happen on Sunday , we chose a city that the right was sure to win in the first round of the June vote. We were down in the polls in the first round and we got into the second, we were down in the polls in the second round and we won . We are the only real big national party ”.
