The State Archives, as part of the "Night of the Archives", in its headquarters, in via Gallura in Cagliari, are proposing two appointments tonight starting at 17.30.

We begin with the exhibition of documents dedicated to the events which, since the 19th century, have seen as protagonists the tens of thousands of men and women who, in search of better living and working conditions, have left the island to reach America, North Africa, rest of Europe and Australia. From the logistics of transfers to working conditions in the countries of arrival, to letters to family members or to the prefectures , visitors will be able to confront the sources and understand the reasons for the women and men of this diaspora.

At 18.30 the work of reorganizing the archive of the cooperative society "Il messenger sardo" (1969-2010) will be presented, donated to the State Archive of Cagliari by the cultural association of the same name in 2019 and recovered and partially digitized with the collaboration of Faes (Federation of associations for the protection of Sardinian emigrants).

For decades, the periodical was one of the main voices of emigration and helped to preserve a direct link with the island . The director of the Archive Enrico Trogu introduces the meeting. Speakers include Marco Zurru, professor of Sociology at the University of Cagliari, Consuelo Costa, official of the Sardinian Archive Superintendence, the archivist Federica Usai and the historian Francesca Mazzuzi. The actor Elio Turno Arthemalle, with the help of photos, letters and poems sent by readers to the "Sardinian Messenger", will reconstruct the sensations, projects, expectations and disappointments of the emigrants.
