The second and final stage of the journey " In the footsteps of the Martyr Antiochus - patron saint of Sardinia " is underway, a slow path, designed to immerse yourself in the peace and beauty of the places, which from Iglesias will reach the island of Sant'Antioco for some of the most interesting sites in the area, for a total of about 26 kilometers , ideally retracing the ancient route of the solemn procession that reached the Sanctuary of S. Antioco starting from the Bishop's palace of Iglesias.

The first stage, which took place yesterday, started from the Episcopal palace of Iglesias up to Carbonia, where pilgrims were able to stop under a centuries-old olive tree and then visit the center of the mining town and the church of San Ponziano.

The second stage , which started this morning, from the intermodal center of Carbonia with the passage in the large mine of Serbariu saw the pilgrims travel a good part of the route along the path of Santa Barbara, with the passage over the new iron bridge on the SS126 to head towards the hamlet of Is Urigus in the municipality of San Giovanni Suergiu, where the mayor Elvira Usai was waiting for the group, who accompanied the pilgrims to the Is Loccis necropolis through via Sant'Antioco (so called because the procession with the saint passed through it) Santus where the pilgrims were able to make a guide to the archaeological site.

Subsequently the path will then pass on the isthmus that separates Sant'Antioco from the mother island: we will have lunch in front of the two menhirs Su Para and Sa Mongia (which have delimited the territories of Sa Linifera for over 4500 years). You will pass by the remains of the ancient Roman bridge that mark the access to the city until you reach the seafront. All organized by the Fondazione Pellegrinaggi Sardegna, of which the councilor for tourism Roberta Serrenti is the president.

The walk will end in the afternoon with a visit to the town , the necropolis and the Basilica of Sant'Antioco Martire.

The event is taking place safely thanks to the presence of traffic police from Carbonia, civil protection Assosulcis of Sant'Antioco, the Barracellar company of Sant'Antioco and the staff of 118 of the Asas. Some local administrators took part in the journey.
