Imagine a well-oiled chain that slides silently between the sprockets, while the smell of hot pizza mixes with the words of Alfonsina Strada, the only woman to race the Giro d'Italia in 1924. It seems like a scene from a pop-sports novel, but on May 16 in Quartucciu, it becomes reality: here culture gets on its bike and a preview of the Mondo Eco Festival takes place.

The key word is “hybridization”: sports, reading, mechanics and conviviality intertwine in an event that mixes genres and audiences. In collaboration with Fiab, the evening opens with a free cycle-mechanics workshop at the Orto Giardino Mariposa de Cardu (from 5 to 8 pm), led by Cristiano Vinci, the soul of the Cagliari cycle workshop. You will learn how to change a tire, adjust brakes, and – why not – even save the evening with an emergency intervention on the road.

Then off we go, everyone in the saddle. The cyclists gather at 7:30 pm in Piazza Giovanni XXIII in Cagliari for a ride to the Su Idanu garden in Quartucciu. Here, at 8:45 pm, the voice of actress Rita Atzeri will bring to the stage a recital that tells three stories on two wheels: “Alfonsina corre” by Joan Negrescolor, “Storie di giustizia nello sport” by Gino Cervi and “Volevo fare la runnera” by Gianluca Alzati, dedicated to the champion Morena Tartagni. To close the evening, there is a pizza al taglio.

The workshop is free but has a limited number of places: reservations are required at 334 882 1892. Reservations are also required to participate in the recital (and the related pizza).
