Parco dei Suoni goodbye, Sardinia Concerti throws in the towel
Discomfort and inefficiency at the concert on August 9 with Ben Harper. The association: "No intervention from the public administration and late payments by the Region"Sardegna Concerti says goodbye Parco dei Suoni di Riola Sardo, The organization withdraws and announces: "Let's throw in the towel". No more programming of major events on the stage of the Oristano by the association led by Massimo Palmas in this "marvelous structure without equal in Europe".
The decision has been in the air since last year. The straw that broke the camel's back was represented by the gaps that emerged during the closing live , that of Ben Harper on August 9, with 5 thousand spectators.
"They have caused inconvenience to disabled people in particular, in contrast to our 'policy' which has always paid the utmost attention to them - explains Massimo Palmas - we make amends, we apologize and, assuming responsibility, we must underline how organizational shortcomings are a consequence of critical issues economic and logistic that still, despite the massive efforts made in the last seven years, prevent this structure from developing as it deserves ".
At the center of the controversy is what Sardegna Concerti defines as " unfinished ".
Born from the award-winning environmental recovery project implemented over 15 years ago by the Region - explains Massimo Palmas - "the Parco dei Suoni , a former sandstone quarry, is a place of great charm appreciated by the public and by the artists who walked this stage, Negramaro, Carmen Consoli, Max Gazzè, to name a few. In recent years the public administration has done nothing to improve it and equip it with essential services, parking spaces reserved for people with disabilities, stages, lighting, safe roads, horizontal signs ".
Sardegna Concerti speaks of a "painful decision", postponed until the conclusion of the closing concert, that of the American artist in order not to disappoint fans' expectations. "We have made many efforts, incurring very high costs - complains Palmas - but they have not helped to improve the situation: organizing a concert in Riola still involves prohibitive costs . To worsen the situation, effectively preventing any temptation to face further sacrifices, it has thought the Region that did not pay last year's contributions and only a few days ago made known the amounts for the current year. An unprecedented delay that has knocked out those who work with the live show already strongly tried by the pandemic ".
