"Dozens of reports" from farmers in the Tirso valley and the Ottana plain for a new invasion of grasshoppers that endangers crops.

The situation was reported by the regional councilor Desirè Manca, who asked the Region to intervene, also in light of the announced plan in favor of measures to combat infestations.

"Also this year - explains the pentastellata exponent - as widely expected, the unfavorable climatic conditions will pave the way for a dangerous invasion of locusts. There are already dozens of reports on the matter. However, even today, there is no trace of the preventive and counter actions of the phenomenon announced by the Government to avoid the repetition of the devastation of crops in the territories of central Sardinia ".

"It is now imminent - continues Manca - the arrival of millions of locusts which already in recent years have devastated the countryside of the Ottana area and brought the agricultural and livestock farms of the Tirso valley and the Ottana plain to their knees".

"Huge sums - recalls Desirè Manca - have been allocated by the Regional Council for the planning and implementation of measures to contain and combat the spread of the phenomenon, including a share of 300 thousand euros to finance study and monitoring activities and a another destined for the relief of damaged farmers ".

"But beyond the announcements, what actions have been concretely carried out to support Sardinian farmers?

Manca also presented an ad hoc question to Governor Solinas and to the regional councilors for Agriculture Murgia and the Environment Lampis.

"Due to the economic crisis linked to the Covid pandemic, agricultural and livestock companies are paying an extremely high price, both for the reduction of activities and for the serious difficulty in selling their product. For this it is essential to know what percentage of the planned refreshments is been paid to the damaged farmers and ranchers ".

"The lands of central Sardinia are about to suffer the same misfortune and it is necessary to intervene immediately to avoid further losses. The prevention campaign and the counter actions must be implemented urgently. At the same time it is urgent to ensure that all affected companies are refreshed in a short time ", concludes Manca.
