Olbia is considering an appeal against its exclusion from the Eccellenza championship.

While awaiting further developments in the Olbia Calcio case, which was banned from the Eccellenza championship due to disputes involving several former members, and the club's announced appeal to rejoin the top regional football league, a brand-new club has emerged in Olbia, ready to restart from the Second Division.

At the moment, it is not known (or at least not with certainty) who is behind the operation, which is apparently supported by the local administration, even though in recent days there has been some excitement in the city surrounding the possibility of founding a new club to represent whites in football.

In any case, the statement issued today by the FIGC Sardinia, which also mentions Carbonia, another club not registered in the Eccellenza league, is clear. "We hereby announce that requests have been received from the mayors of the municipalities of Carbonia and Olbia, requesting registration in the regional championships for two new sports clubs representing their respective territories, following the failure of Carbonia Calcio and Olbia Calcio 1905 to register in the Eccellenza league," it reads.

"The Board of Directors of the Sardinia Regional Committee, having examined the aforementioned requests and considered the exceptional nature of the situation that has arisen, having heard the favorable opinion of the National Amateur League, taking into account the historical importance of the two sporting entities and considering the need to promote the continuity of football activity in the cities of Carbonia and Olbia," the statement continues, "without infringing the acquired rights or legitimate expectations of other clubs, reserves the right to decide regarding the possible admission of new clubs to the Second Category Championship for the 2026/2027 season, in groups "B" and "H" respectively, subject to the complete completion of the affiliation procedures, the conclusion of the relevant investigation process, and the completion of all required bureaucratic and administrative requirements."

If successful, the new Olbia Calcio would be placed in a group with Atletico Maddalena, Berchidda, Budonese, Football Club Biasì, La Salette Olbia, Loiri Calcio, Monti, Palau, Porto Cervo, Porto San Paolo, Sant'Antonio Gallura, Siniscola Montalbo, Sporting Pauledda, and Trinità.
