The art of Gianni Polinas is on display at the former Casermette on Via Mameli. From today until October 10th, two installations, "Pagina Nuova" and "Una è la Terra," intertwine along the same themes as the generative power of nature and the call to environmental conservation.
A tribute to the peasant world and to the jobs that are disappearing , in “Una è la Terra” Polinas stages the representation of the profound connection with nature and its fruits, sublimated by a book-sculpture, “Lezione della terra”, guardian of ancient wisdom.
The work is a work in progress: the artist invites visitors to contribute by bringing a bag of soil from their hometown, which will enrich the installation and leave a trace of themselves. Also on display is “Pagina Nuova”: here the artist returns to a cherished theme, that of forest fires, which he addressed in 2003 with the installation/performance “Solo Cenere” (2003), in which he recalled the devastating fire of August 28, 1989, between San Pantaleo and Portisco, just a few years after the equally tragic fire that occurred in 1983 in Curraggia, in the countryside of Tempio Pausania.
A stretch of plastic bags containing the ash of trees and shrubs and a book covered in burnt, cut, and re-sewn canvas evoke the continuous, patient work with which nature heals its wounds. This is how the artist portrays her idea of resilience as opposed to the destructive violence of man.
The Casermette space opened its doors a few months ago , thanks to the restoration project by architects Lidia Sanna and Cristina Dessole, it has already hosted several artistic events, projecting itself as a cultural reference point in the heart of Olbia.
