The energy transition also involves making public buildings more efficient and in the coming years, public administrations will be called upon to make their own contribution. In this sense, the European Commission has been clear: from 1 January 2027, all new buildings occupied or owned by the PA will have to be NZEB . The acronym stands for Nearly Zero Energy Building, i.e. buildings that guarantee high energy performance and use energy produced from renewable sources to cover energy needs. For a public building, NZEB translates into greater efficiency, less consumption and therefore lower costs for the same service provided, as well as obviously the reduction of emissions.

It is a win-win approach, combining sustainability and benefits. For example, the PA will be able to save something like 80% of the energy consumption of buildings if it decides to adopt the best smart building solutions on the market in an integrated manner . Solutions such as energy audit and energy management system for energy management, photovoltaic and energy storage for the production and self-consumption of renewable and sustainable energy, finally heat pumps, thermal insulation and LED lighting to reduce consumption. Above all, NZEB buildings enhance the entire city and make it cleaner, more sustainable, livable and citizen-friendly, with advantages and benefits for the whole community.

A virtuous example of public administration that has made an informed choice and embarked on the path of Nearly Zero Energy Buildings is San Mauro Torinese , where Enel X is carrying out a cutting-edge project on 40 public buildings (including the town hall, churches and schools of various levels ) which will allow the Piedmontese municipality to reduce overall consumption and, consequently, to reduce CO2 emissions by around 320 tons per year. The same path that Sardinian public administrations can also take.

In this process towards efficiency and sustainability, Enel X Global Retail is the unique partner that allows Sardinian municipalities to take control of their energy , covering all aspects and the entire value chain of Nearly Zero Energy Buildings with solutions for every need of public administrations.
