MSC buys 49% of Vincenzo Onorato's Moby . In recent days, as anticipated by Corriere, the entry of the Luxembourg company Sas Shipping Agencies Services Sarl into the capital of Moby took place, of which it now holds practically half of the share capital which is 70.8 million euros.
The acquisition by MSC, the cruise group (and world leader in freight traffic) direct emanation of the Aponte family, had already been announced in a note on March 24, 2022 . An announcement that was providential at the time, because MSC's willingness to inject liquidity and to give guarantees to creditors , above all in relation to the debt situation of "Tirrenia in extraordinary administration", had made it possible to avoid bankruptcy and to reach an agreement with the Ministry of Economic Development which had contented itself with collecting in a lump sum half of the 180 million euros that it still had to collect for the outstanding installments relating to the deferred payment for the transfer of Compagnia Italiana di Navigazione (Tirrenia) to Moby which took place in 2012.
MSC also controls Grandi Navi Veloci, a competitor group of Moby on ferries: a partnership between two families, therefore, first competitors.
