Mandas, the special Lawrence prize goes to Matteo Porru

Matteo Porru will receive the first edition of the “DH Lawrence 2023” Special Prize awarded on the occasion of the “DH Lawrence Travel Literature Festival” on Sunday morning 24 September in Mandas.
The exhibition, now in its fifteenth edition, promoted by the Municipality of Mandas in collaboration with the Region and Arst, from this year, theme "Beauty. Mandas meets the Costa Smeralda” (whose territory was once part of the Duchy of Mandas), in addition to the prizes for journalism (awarded to the journalist of L'Unione Sarda Enrico Pilia) and for literature (awarded to the writer Virginia Saba), saw the creation of the Municipality's special prize awarded to the young writer Matteo Porru.
This is the motivation: «For the diffusion of human values and the very high cultural stature, masterfully expressed through the pages of the book 'Pain creates winter' published by Garzanti editore, thanks to which over the last year it has succeeded to spread throughout the world, fighting against abuses against the weakest, the strength of one's talent and high moral profile".
The objective of the day is to raise regional and national public awareness of the theme of Travel Literature and, in the case of the Lawrence Prize, of the journey on the historic train where the English writer traveled with his wife Frieda in 1921. The Prize will, in fact, be awarded during the journey that the train will make from Mandas to Laconi. On the Baucchiero carriages , together with tourists and passengers, the young writer will receive the Prize to symbolize the need for a union between literature and historical train, enriching the tourist offer of the whole of Sardinia, generating positive effects on the economy of the territories crossed by the railway . All through the creation of thematic itineraries and itineraries, focused on the places visited and described by the traveling writer.
