Mandas remembers Renato Raccis, the first Sardinian striker in Serie A

When Cagliari was very far from Serie A, everyone in Sardinia cheered Renato Raccis , the first Sardinian bomber with the Livorno and Milan shirts. Disappeared in 1979, he was born in Mandas on June 17, 1922. And his country has decided to celebrate the hundredth anniversary of his birth with a series of initiatives that will also involve past and present champions.

"Often - said his son Giorgio - I wondered what could be the example to pass on to young people to remember my father and I like to think, in addition to the model of the scorer who scored so many goals, the story of a boy of just sixteen years that he leaves the castle and goes alone to Prato in 1938. Those were other times and there was certainly no possibility of knowing the world outside your home. But he had courage and always remained with his feet on the ground, having fun scoring goals but without ever losing his values, his identity and his firmness ".

Also in the room the former rossoblù Beppe Tomasini, Adriano Reginato and Gigi Piras . Also present were the regional councilor for tourism Gianni Chessa and the mayor of Mandas Umberto Oppus. Raccis was the first Sardinian footballer to play in Serie A, the third islander striker ever in the top flight, behind Virdis and Zola, but ahead of Sau and Piras.

To pay homage to him, in addition to the AC Milan champions of the present and of the past, who have already sent their messages, such as Costacurta and Baresi , there will be others who will reach Mandas so as not to miss the event.

Congratulations also from Livorno : in Tuscany the Sardinian striker touched the Scudetto in the 1942/1943 season . The program includes the naming of a street in Mandas, a youth tournament , the "Game of the Centenary" between the old glories of Cagliari and the local ones, the presentation of a book on its history, a prize promoted by Ussi (sports press) .

A meeting is also planned with the mayors of the island's villages who have expressed players with at least one presence in A.
