He was one of the no vax par excellence in the world of football, so much so that Bayern Munich cut his salary, then he had Covid and now he has changed his mind.
Joshua Kimmich, central midfielder of Bayern and the German national team, said in an interview with Zdf, the public TV, who will be vaccinated: "Now I have to wait for the doctors' go-ahead, I can't do it right away (he recently had the Covid, ed), but I'll get vaccinated ".
In October, his "no for personal reasons" to the vaccine sparked debate. “I must say that it was difficult to deal with my fears and certain beliefs I had, but now I have realized how things are. I thought that respecting the rules, taking every precaution and taking regular swabs were enough to protect myself from the virus, but it would have been better if I had already had the vaccine, ”he admitted.
However, the midfielder did not like the criticisms that rained down on him when he was a “no vax”: “They crossed the line. We always talk about respect, tolerance and open-mindedness, I really believe these are values that have been lacking in the ongoing debate on the vaccine ".
The infection gave him lung problems that forced him to stay still until January: "I had mild symptoms, but the checks I underwent showed that there is some fluid in my lungs, so I have to wait to start training again. Otherwise I risk that the liquid reaches my heart and that there are long-term consequences ".
