A true California punk icon has chosen to extend her Italian tour here on the island this weekend: Jen Pop, former frontwoman and guitarist of the cult band The Bombpops, will make two new stops on her solo tour in Italy in Olbia and Cagliari on Friday evenings, at Devil Kilss, and Saturday, at the Cousinà Late Show.
Jen Razavi grew up—as she herself says—on heavy doses of pop punk, founding The Bombpops at a very young age with her friend Poli Van Dam. Recruiting Austin Missett (bass) and Dylan Wade (drums), they embarked on five years of intense activity that culminated in the 2015 European tour with veterans The Gamits, led by Chris Fogal: he would later produce their studio debut, "Fear of Missing Out." Released in 2017 and boasting a fiercely California-pop and skate sound, the album took them around the world touring with legends from various corners of punk: from the melodic Descendents and Bad Religion to the rawness of Nofx, via the Celtic-inspired Dropkick Murphys. Jen Pop also sang vocals for the latter on their 2022 tour, the year she took her first solo steps.
Collaborating with producer and Grammy nominee Will Yip, in 2023 he released the first three tracks from his solo debut, "East Side of Eden," which followed the following year. The original punk roots take on digital forms, blending emo-pop melodies with hints of prog. This fall's Italian tour, originally scheduled only for Italy, has been extended with two final dates in Cagliari and Olbia, the result of the collaboration of local bands Cool Kids Music and the Tuhc Collective.
