In full service, around mid-morning and with the red flag hoisted, they left two lifeguard towers unmanned for 45 minutes.
For this reason, according to 'Il Resto del Carlino', the Port Authority has issued a double fine to the Spiagge Ravenna cooperative. Two fines, totaling €1,032 each , were issued after an inspection in Marina di Ravenna during bad weather last week. Some lifeguards have already requested clarification from the unions and the Port Authority.
According to the Coast Guard patrol's reconstruction, the lifeguards were at the time having a breakfast break at a nearby establishment but had not given advance notice and had not followed the procedures required in these cases.
The cooperative's president, Maurizio Rustignoli, didn't downplay the situation: "This is extremely serious and negligent behavior. You can't leave a watchtower alone for 45 minutes, much less during service hours and with a red flag flying ."
