Five children ended up in hospital on Sunday afternoon after swimming in a swimming pool at a facility in the Borghesiana area, on the outskirts of Rome.

The five were immediately rescued and transported to the hospital. The most serious, who is 9 years old, was admitted to intensive care.

The police are investigating the incident. From initial findings, it seems that the illness was linked to chlorine poisoning.

The alarm was raised around 5:30 pm after a call from one of the parents. 118 intervened on the spot. The children were taken to the hospital.

Two of them have already been discharged, two others have been hospitalized in the ward and the most serious one in intensive care.
