They had been looking for her for days, little Guendalina. And yet she had never left that house. The thieves had not only cleaned out their apartment, but had committed unimaginable cruelty: they locked the 5-year-old dog, a mixed-breed dog adopted from the city shelter, in the washing machine drum.

It happened in Vigevano: taking advantage of the absence of the owners (mother and two children on holiday, father out for dinner) the thieves raided the house and took away the valuables. But the family dog had also disappeared.

Perhaps it was hope that had escaped while the door was left open. The whole city had mobilized on social media with a tom-tom. Only after a few days was the terrible discovery made: Guendalina had been locked inside the washing machine and thus died.

The family, in shock like the entire community, took the carcass to a veterinary center, and in the next few hours a decision will be made whether to proceed with a possible autopsy examination.
