The Rome Public Prosecutor's Office has opened a manslaughter investigation file in relation to the death of journalist Andrea Purgatori . The proceeding was opened after a complaint from the family about alleged wrong treatment and diagnosis.

The family's lawyers made it known in a statement released in the afternoon: "The family of Andrea Purgatori - we read - communicates that, following a complaint, the Nas dei Carabinieri, under the command of Colonel Alessandro Amadei, coordinated by the Public Prosecutors Sergio Colaiocco and Giorgio Orano, is conducting investigations to shed light on the correctness of the diagnoses and treatments provided to their loved one , who died on 19 July 2023 after only two months from the initial diagnosis".

Again: «In particular, the family members have asked that the correctness of the diagnosis reported to Andrea Purgatori in a Roman clinical note be ascertained and the consequent need for the heavy therapies prescribed to him , and if, due to the same possible diagnostic errors, the treatments actually necessary have been omitted. The family, represented by the lawyer Gianfilippo Cau, is defended in the proceedings by the lawyers Alessandro and Michele Gentiloni Silveri».

The journalist apparently suffered from lung cancer, an inappropriate radiotherapy to the brain may have hastened the death . In the coming days, the Public Prosecutor's Office will order the autopsy, which will also be attended by the experts appointed by the Purgatori family. Medical records will also be acquired.
