A diver who was working on the recovery of the Bayesian, the sailing ship that sank off Porticello (Palermo) on the night of August 19, died during a dive. The cause of death is not yet known. The victim is thought to be 39 years old.

The recovery operations on the yacht of British billionaire Mike Lynch began a couple of days ago, with an estimated time of a couple of weeks to bring the sailing vessel back to the surface using the Hebo Lift 10, the 5,695 gross ton crane vessel, one of the most powerful in Europe, and its twin Hebo Lift 2.

The yacht, it was explained, will be carefully repositioned upright and returned to the surface, with the seawater pumped out into a pollution containment area before being subsequently transferred to port.

The Bayesian sank while at anchor in Porticello: there were 22 people on board, 7 dead including Mike Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter.
