The Nazi swastika that wrapped the coffin in the churchyard, then the Roman salute.
These are scenes seen in Rome at the end of the funeral of Alessia Augello, a militant of the far-right Forza Nuova movement who died at the age of 44 last January 7 from complications that occurred after surgery.
Dozens of militants took part in the last farewell in the parish of Santa Lucia, "paying homage" to Augello with the unequivocal symbols.
The Digos of the State Police immediately launched an investigation with the aim of identifying the perpetrators: several, it has already been disclosed, belong to the fringes of the extreme right.
"What happened was not authorized by the parish priest or by the celebrating priest - the words of condemnation of Don Alessandro and Don Paolo Emilio, owners of the parish -. We intend to express our deep sadness, disappointment and disappointment for what has happened". Priests "distance themselves from every word, symbol and gesture used outside the church attributable to extremist ideologies far from the Gospel".
