The body of the man who disappeared on Saturday was found, most likely swallowed by quicksand in Lake Giacopiane, an artificial basin in the municipality of Borzonasca, in the eastern hinterland of Genoa.
The body of 38-year-old Gabriele Zolezzi was recovered by the firefighters after hours of searches. The man well known in Val d'Aveto, a practicing sportsman, was a bricklayer and lived in the hamlet of Amborzasco; according to the testimonies of friends, he knew the Giacopiane reservoir well , where in the site of the tragedy the signs expressly indicate the "bathing ban", but above all the "danger of quicksand".
It is not excluded that his knowledge of the place could have betrayed him. According to initial reconstructions, when getting out of the water the 38-year-old approached the prohibited area and within seconds disappeared, swallowed up by the slime.
The first rescue interventions by the firefighters and the police were of no avail: in fact, it took a few hours to locate and recover the body. The carabinieri of the company of Sestri Levante, in the province of Genoa, responsible for the area, are carrying out investigations to clarify the exact dynamics and above all whether all the safety regulations, given the danger of quicksand, have been implemented by the lake managers artificial.
