Fears for two hundred guests at a wedding in a hotel in Ariano Irpino, in the province of Avellino .
Late yesterday evening, at the conclusion of the wedding ceremony, sparks were released from the “light fountains” placed on the cake, starting a fire .
The fire quickly spread to the lobby of the Kristal Palace hotel in the Cardito district, causing significant damage.
Firefighters from Ariano Irpino and Grottaminarda, along with numerous ambulances from 118, arrived on site alongside the Carabinieri.
Only the groom, originally from Calitri, was injured while trying to put out the flames , suffering second-degree burns to his right hand and head. After being treated at the hospital, he was released that night.
The guests were assisted on site by 118 medical personnel: some suffered minor smoke intoxication.
