The man who opened fire seriously injuring a carabiniere during a first communion this summer in Acireale, in the Catania area, ended up in prison.

The carabinieri of the provincial command of Catania, at the disposal of the local prosecutor, are also carrying out a precautionary measure issued by the Gip (obligation to submit to the judicial police) against five people under investigation for aggravated brawl in competition.

THE RECONSTRUCTION - The fight broke out on 5 September for the allocation of seats inside the Church of Santa Maria degli Ammalati: the protagonist was the family of a child with separated parents, whose respective relatives had had an increasingly heated discussion. in church and continued outside.
According to what was reconstructed by the investigating judge validating the arrest, the boy's 69-year-old paternal grandfather, Camillo Leocata, after the quarrel and during the function, left the church to fetch the gun at home "after having perceived the threats addressed to his son by the relatives of the ex-wife ". During a fight, he later declared himself, he opened fire "on a person who I did not quite understand what he was doing, whether or not he was hitting my son".

That man was the deputy brigadier Sebastiano Giovanni Grasso, an off-duty soldier who was participating in the communion of his son and had intervened to help his colleagues to calm the spirits and divide a dozen people. In the chaos he was wounded between the throat and the head.

After the shot, Leocata remained with the gun in his hand "despite the fact that the carabinieri had ordered him several times to put it down, all the way up to the intervention of his son who, with a sudden gesture, slips it out of his hands".
