New development in the story of the woman from Ischia who left her husband, throwing him out, to pursue a relationship with the parish priest of her neighborhood: the bishop has in fact accepted the resignation of the priest, who had voluntarily suspended himself from his religious functions, thus leaving uncovered the parish to which he had been assigned, the church he was temporarily managing and also the position of vice director of the diocesan Caritas.

A note from the diocese states that "today, accepting the resignation of Don Antonio Scala, Bishop Carlo Villano has appointed Don Carlo Busiello as parish administrator of the Parishes of Natività di Maria SS., S. Giorgio Martire, S. Sebastiano Martire in Barano d'Ischia. The Bishop, thanking Don Antonio for the service carried out in these years and Don Carlo for the availability offered, assures his prayers for the parish communities."

Tomorrow afternoon the bishop himself will celebrate mass in the now former parish of the priest to reassure the community. In several statements, Monsignor Villano has in the last few hours called for the need to respect the request for confidentiality expressed by all parties involved, also due to the presence of minors who must be protected.

"Discretion, respect and human solidarity", his words, with the hope that the uproar will fade as soon as possible. Certainly the island diocese is following the matter with great attention in the hope that it may resolve itself spontaneously but neither of the two protagonists would have any intention of going back on their steps.

The romantic relationship between the 58-year-old priest and the woman (a 41-year-old married mother of two) had apparently been going on for some time. The woman was a cleaner in the parish church assigned to the priest and after some time, love at first sight had struck. A few days before Christmas, the woman finally decided to take the initiative and send her husband away from home to live her relationship with the parish priest freely.
