The Court of Assizes of Como sentenced Gabriel Robert Marincat, a 26-year-old Romanian, to life in prison for the murder of the little Sharon Barni, aged only 18 months, daughter of her partner, who was beaten and tortured on 11 January in Cabiate (Como), in the woman's apartment.

The court sentenced the accused to pay compensation, setting a provisional amount of 200 thousand euros in favor of the child's mother and 50 thousand euros for the father.

Accepted the request of the prosecutor Antonia Pavan.

At first the man, a 26-year-old worker of Romanian origin, spoke of a domestic accident: “She was crushed under the stove,” he said. But the autopsy had framed him, bringing to light the horror: Sharon had been raped and killed. Once arrested, he admitted, stating that he "did not know" why he had done so.

The young man was the companion of Sharon's mother, to whom the mother had entrusted the child that day to go to work. It was Marincat himself who raised the alarm a few hours later, speaking of a domestic accident.

Marincat listened in silence to the reading of the sentence, "he expected it," said his lawyer, who announced an appeal because "in a process of this type a psychiatric report was essential".

Also in the classroom Silvia Barni, 25, mother of the little girl. "Sharon won't be back, but at least she got justice," her lawyers commented.
