Rome, huge fire in Monte Mario: buildings and also the Rai headquarters evacuated

«The flames had already been high since early afternoon, we saw the column of smoke, black and dense, and then heard explosions. We were scared and took to the streets."

This is the story of some inhabitants who witnessed the vast fire that hit the Monte Mario area in Rome, threatening their homes.

A column of black smoke enveloped the neighborhood, near the court buildings, and several buildings were evacuated, including the Rai headquarters in via Teulada. The episode of Estate in Diretta, broadcast on Rai1, was also suspended due to the emergency.

«Very serious fire behind the Rai headquarters in via Teulada, which now risks attacking the carabinieri barracks. At the moment the flames cannot be put out", wrote Sigfrido Ranucci, host of Report, on Facebook, posting a video of the flames with a fire brigade helicopter busy on site.
