On Remembrance Day, the mayor of Alghero Raimondo Cacciotto was a guest at the Quirinale , in the presence of the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella and the highest offices of the State , to celebrate an important anniversary "which must not only be a moment to rhetorically exercise memory, but a reminder to think about the centrality of the person in every circumstance of daily life", the mayor announced on his social page.
Also in Rome was Egea Haffner, an honorary citizen of Alghero, the protagonist of the famous photo "The little girl with the suitcase", a symbol of the exodus , an image kept in the museum of Fertilia. Also present was the crew of Klizia, the vessel captained by Giulio Marongiu who, as part of the project "Return to the Land of the Fathers", sailed over 800 miles through the lands of Ferrara, Veneto, Venezia Giulia and Istria, from where the main communities that formed Fertilia arrived together with the Sardinians and the people of Alghero.
At the same time, in Fertilia, the highest local authorities took part in the ceremony in the church of San Marco and then in the laying of commemorative wreaths at the two monuments symbolising the Julian-Dalmatian exodus and the foibe .
Taking Cacciotto's place was Deputy Mayor Francesco Marinaro, wearing the tricolour sash, together with the mayor of Sassari Giuseppe Mascia, who attended the ceremony.
