Di Maio, already arrested a year and a half ago on charges of possession for the purpose of dealing , is preparing to face a new trial . The deputy prosecutor of Milan Baj Macario, after the investigations by the Gdf of Malpensa, requested immediate judgment for him.

For a similar crime, Gbl sent from Holland, was arrested on 24 August 2021 and then sentenced to one year and 4 months. The artist, who made his debut on TV at the end of the 90s as one of the "Carramba boys", was arrested and sentenced at first instance by the Court of Milan to one year and 4 months (with generic mitigating circumstances granted) and a fine of 3,800 EUR. The second arrest, which saw the former Rai presenter first under house arrest and then released upon expiry of the terms of precautionary custody, starts from a shipment arriving at the Cargo City of Malpensa airport from China, intercepted by the Fiamme Gialle of the Group of Malpensa who identified the narcotic substance.

With the authorization of the judicial authority of Busto Arsizio, the financiers carried out a controlled delivery in order to acquire further evidence useful for identifying those responsible for drug trafficking by following, incognito and at a distance, the shipment until its delivery to the recipient took place in Milan. The resulting flagrant intervention made it possible to seize the shipment containing approximately 3 liters of Gbl and arrest the importer.

During the operation, the financiers searched the arrested man's home and found more Gbl, also known in jargon as "Gisella" or "Geena", cocaine and mephedrone. The "Gisella" imported into Italy was subsequently hired or sold, according to the accusation, in the latter case also using courier services on request. According to what was reconstructed from the first investigations, it emerged that Di Maio purchased the narcotic online and paid for it in virtual currency. A load of silicone was then reported on the package label. During validation before the investigating judge, Di Maio made use of the right not to respond. However, he made spontaneous statements, stating that the drug had been purchased exclusively for personal use.
