The scam begins with a phone call and always targets the weakest categories, especially the elderly. Among the most recent, the one that comes from the Seriana Valley. A 75-year-old was contacted on the phone by a fake carabiniere who said she belonged to the command of Sardinia: "Her son - she explained to a 75-year-old - caused a serious road accident near Cagliari and was arrested". The worry and anxiety of the woman is imaginable, willing to do anything to help her child. The fake soldier also added that, for this reason, he should have handed over 7 thousand euros to a lawyer as soon as possible, while - to add tension - he clarified that his daughter-in-law and grandchildren were already in the barracks.

At that point a false lawyer called the 75-year-old, anticipating that a carabiniere would go to her house to collect the amount inserted in an envelope that would then be delivered to the command of Sardinia. So the old woman carried out the orders but after a few hours a suspect came to her and phoned her son on the cell phone, thus discovering that she had been deceived.
